Lawsuit suggests Invokana may do diabetes more harm than good

Invokana, once hailed as the ‘miracle drug’ for treating Type 2 diabetes, is now the subject of a series of lawsuits. The Invokana lawsuit alleges that the potential development of ketoacidosis and other side effects were not properly disclosed to patients looking to treat their adult onset diabetes.

Invokana May Cause Kidney Failure And Nerve Damage

Two of the main problems that most diabetics look to avoid are kidney failure and nerve damage. That’s why so many people chose Invokana. Yet, unfortunately the very drug that they hoped would help them lead them straight down the path of what they hoped to avoid. The drug also carries an increased risk of heart attacks and ketoacidosis.

Invokana Lawsuits Increase

Invokana lawsuits are on the arise. Primarily, plaintiffs allege that the manufacturer, Janssen Pharmaceuticals, did not properly warn of the potentially dangerous and life-changing side effects that may be caused by Invokana.

There were issues that were concerning before the manufacturer submitted their application for FDA approval. For instance, very little was actually known about potential side effects. There was no clinical evidence that Invokana caused better results for patients.

Within two years of Invokana’s approval, the FDA received 73 reports of ketoacidosis. Now, they are receiving numerous reports of amputations. Although a direct link has yet to be made, the FDA has started to investigate the potential link.
